ABOUT US

SHARPE BUILDERS was established in 1976 by the 'grandad' of the family business Stewart Frank Sharpe.

Frank started working in the trade straight from school at the age of 16 as an apprentice and labourer for a local builder in Birmingham, and he fell in love with the craft. After years of learning multiple trades on many building sites Frank went on to start a business in his own name where he used other labourers when necessary.

Later when Frank's sons Nicholas and Matthew came along they were introduced to the business from a young age getting involved in projects with Frank in school holidays and weekends. Both Nick and Matt went onto doing a City & Guilds in Carpentry & Joinery after their O-levels before learning many other skills passed down by Frank. Nick first started working in the trade for a window fitting company both fitting windows and doing all of the involved construction work that none of the other window fitters did such as bricklaying and fitting lintels. During this point Nick was also doing other building work of his own on weekends both with Frank, and alone. Matthew started to work with Frank straight after college expanding on his skills becoming a partner in Frank's work, and slowly taking on work of his own. Through recommendations and word of mouth they then both started building their reputations and joined the family business to make it a permanent team of 3.

In the 90s, Nick's sons Daniel and Scott were born and in their early teens were also introduced to manual labour by their dad during weekends and school holidays. Whilst both Dan and Scott originally studied for other professions in their college/university courses they were both drawn back to the family business by the diversity of the work they do, and the satisfaction that is had upon meeting and exceeding client's expectations and officially joined the family business in 2014.

Now, Frank is (reluctantly) retired and it's the younger generations that carry the reputation of the family name with them bringing the highest standard of work from friendly people who you can trust.

We are all individual self-employed sole traders that trade under the same name so there is no ultimate boss, the person who obtains the job is the lead for that project.
